Ruth Hernandez

Ruth R. Hernandez, 63, of Austin departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at the Hospice Austin’s Christopher House. She was born on Feb. 3, 1952 in Victoria, to Rev. Ramiro G. Rodriguez and Paula Rodriguez. 
Ruth graduated from Edna High School and continued her studies at the University of Texas at Austin while working as an early-childhood caregiver. She worked at a local pre-school and expanded her love for children by developing her personal daycare. Ruth also had a passion for scrapbooking to preserve cherished memories she created with family and friends. She was a devoted member to West Oak Woods Baptist Church in Austin. She married John Hernandez on Nov. 15, 1986. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant sister, Lydia Rodriguez.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 30 years, John Hernandez; a son, John David Hernandez and his fiancé, Georgia Salinas of Austin; brothers, Pastor Rogelio R. Rodriguez and his wife, Olivia, from Rosenberg, and Ramiro Rodriguez, Jr. and his wife, Alma, from Corpus Christi; sisters, Gloria Cervantes and her husband, Mike, of Austin, Esther Garza of Austin, and Yolanda Gonzales and her husband, Raul, of Houston. She was loved by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and an honorary sister – Eunice Guajardo from Austin.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Westoak Woods Baptist Church, 2900 W. Slaughter Lane, Austin. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Austin. 
Psalm 32:7 “You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.”

Gerald Bures

Gerald A. (Rabbit) Bures Sr., 86 of Ganado passed away Thursday Jan. 28, 2016. He was born May 10, 1929 in Ganado to the late Emil and Theresa Orkulik Bures. Gerald retired from Alcoa in 1983, after 33 years of service in the Power Dept. He was also a farmer and rancher.  e was a KC member at Assumption Catholic Church.
Gerald served his country during the Korean War in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife Alice Macha Bures; daughters Sandra (John) Martin of Brownwood, Cathy (Rory)Hafernick of Bay City, Cynthia Bures of Ganado, Mary (Craig) Stavinoha of East Bernard; sons Dennis (Cindy), Steven, and David (Renee) Bures, all of Ganado, and Gerald Bures Jr. (Kelly) of Tennessee. Also surviving is his brother Albert Bures of Cuero; sister Angie Smith of Victoria; 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. 
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Emil and Bernard Bures, half-brothers Edward and Jerome Bures, and half-sister, Annie Schultz.
Visitation was from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31, at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel, 800 So. Third St., with a rosary recited at 6 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Clem Quainoo and Rev. Michael Lyons officiating.
Interment will follow in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Howard Wood, Derek Hafernick, David Lee Jr. and Justin Bures, John Henry Martin Jr., Jason Bures and Zachery Stavinoha. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services are entrusted to Russell Todish of the Ganado Funeral Home, 361-771-2120.

Peggy Sheppard

Peggy Ann Sheppard, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at the age of 82. She was born in Birmingham, Ala. on Jan. 22, 1934, to the late Earl Eugene Niles and Bessie Maddox Niles.
She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be truly missed.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Melissa Sheppard; son, James “Jim” Sheppard and wife Edna; sisters, Dottie Ensinger and Earline Etheridge; brother, Hank Niles; grandchildren, Nicolle Castillo and Dustin Sheppard; great-grandchild, Cannon Castillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Gene Sheppard.  
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 2,  from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Febr. 3, at 11 a.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Robert Krause will be officiating. Burial to follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna.
Pallbearers will be Jim Sheppard, Dustin Sheppard, Johnny Castillo, Steve Marthiljohni, James David Curlee, and Rene Fournier. Honorary pallbearers are Cannon Castillo, Joe Maciel, Buddy Hoffpauir, and Stan Lounsbury.

Mary Browning Shutt

Mary Lanell “Nonnie” Browning Shutt of Edna, 88, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. She was born in Jackson County on May 31, 1928 to the late Aurbe Clinton “Bud” Browning and Carrie Maria Whybark Browning.
Mary and Harvey August Shutt were married on January 12, 1945. They were married for 58 years before he passed on Nov. 7, 2003. Mary worked in banking for most of her adult years. She was employed by 1st National Bank and Mid Coast Savings in Edna. She was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edna and helped with the construction of the church. She taught Sunday School and helped with Vacation Bible School.
She loved her family and the time she spent with them. Her faith was an inspiration to all.  She was a treasured mom, sister, “Nonnie,” aunt and friend who will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children, Clinton Powers Shutt and wife Marilyn, Linda Louis Steward and husband W.D., Phyllis Jean Jones and husband Fred A., and Anna Marie Arage and husband Jimmy; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and sister-in law Corrine Reeves.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey August Shutt; siblings, Ruth Crisp Moore and husband Ray Crisp, Seidel C. Browning and wife Esther, Wilma Storz and husband Eugene, Carroll Browning and wife Marie, Laurabeth Wallace Hickman and husband Jack, Alvin Browning and wife Juanita, Orville Browning, Carrie Ann Neeley Ambaugh and husband Gerald, and Ruby Browning; and great-granddaughter Renee Elizabeth Kallus.
Visitation will be at Slavik Funeral Chapel in Edna from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and Thursday, Feb. 4 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edna. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. with Rev. Andrew Schroer officiating. Interment will be in Red Bluff Cemetery, Lolita.
Pallbearers are Christopher Thompson, Ashton Thompson, Jeff Ruppert, Eric Dies, Nathan Dies, and Bill Callaway.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 504 Dugger St., Edna, TX, 77957.

Cristina Robles

    Cristina Castro Robles, of Edna, Texas passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the age of 49. She was born June 25, 1966, in Ganado, Texas, to Encarnacion Castro and the late Consuelo Ramirez Castro.
    Cristina worked as a care giver for many years. She touched the lives of several people and had a trademark smile that would never be forgotten. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. Cristina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly.  
    She is survived by her husband, Javier Robles; father, Encarnacion Castro; daughter, Crystal Robles; son, Javier Robles, Jr., sisters, Gloria Castro, Monica Guerra, and Martha Castro; brothers, Ray Castro, Gilbert Castro, Martin Castro, Roy Castro and wife Adela, and Adrian Castro and wife Trish; grandchildren, Madyson Tones, Savanah Robles and soon to be grand-daughter, Marleigh Robles, numerous nieces and nephews.
    Cristina is preceded in death by her mother; grand-daughter, Vivianna Robles; and brother, Andy Ramirez.
    Visitation was held on Sunday, Feb. 7, from 5-7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass was on Monday, Feb. 8, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna. Reverend Michael Petering officiated. Burial followed at Latin American Cemetery in Edna.
    Pallbearers will be Ryan Stovall, Andy Joe Castro, Johnny Joe Castro, Nighel Tones, Mario Soto, and Larry Holmes.

George Born

    George Henry Born died on January 21 at the age of 76 years old. He was born in a farm house in Westhoff, Texas on November 10, 1939. His parents were Lydia Olga (Schulle) and Henry Born; he was born the 8th of nine children. After age one he was raised on various farms in Jackson County. George graduated as valedictorian of his class from Industrial High School in Vanderbilt in 1957. His freshman year he attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. He then transferred to the University of Texas, Austin, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1962.
    He then was employed at Chance-Vought Corporation in Dallas for two years. In July 1963, e married Joy Evelyn Judd of Edna. They had one son, Brett Douglas, who was born on August 15, 1969. They divorced in 1991. George returned to the University of Texas in the fall of 1963 and completed the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Aerospace Engineering in 1968. He then spent two years as an engineer at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston working on the Apollo Program.
    His next job was at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. While there he worked on the Mariner 9 Project, the Viking Missions to Mars, the Seasat Project, and various inter-planetary missions. This was an exciting time in space exploration. Mariner 9 was the first spacecraft to orbit another planet and the Viking Missions safely landed two spacecrafts on the surface of Mars. He served as Geophysical Evaluation Manager for the Seasat Project which flew the first suite of ocean-observing microwave sensors. During this time, he also served as supervisor of the Precision Orbit Determination Group which was responsible for navigating Earth and inter-planetary missions. George was instrumental in the design and implementation of the TOPEX/Poseidon oceanographic mission. This was a joint project between NASA and the French space agency, CNES. During this time, George won seven NASA awards for his technical and managerial contributions.
    In 1983, he returned to the University of Texas at Austin as a senior research scientist at the Center for Space Research. Here he was engaged in teaching and research. In 1985, he accepted a position as professor of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder. He then founded the Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research at the university. This as the first research center established in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. This center became internationally known for its contributions to spacecraft guidance, control and navigation; and remote sensing of the oceans and atmosphere with radars and lidars.
    George taught graduate courses in statistical orbit determination, orbital mechanics, and inter-planetary mission design. He formed close and lasting relationships with many of his graduate students. During his career, he served as PhD advisor to 39 students. He published well over a hundred peer-reviewed papers as well as a textbook on statistical orbit determination.
    On March 21, 1992, George married Carol Ann Leslie of Boulder, Colorado. She was instrumental in all of his achievements thereafter. She accompanied him on many of his business trips and was always supportive of his career. George was grateful to Carol for her support and encouragement for all of his graduate students.
    George had continued working on the TOPEX/Poseidon mission which launched in August 1992 and continued monitoring the Earth’s oceans for 13 years. Many of his graduate students’ dissertations were based on analysis of data from this mission. He was active in the design of inter-planetary missions. He was inducted as a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and of the American Astronautical Society. In 2004, George was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering for contributions to satellite geodesy and oceanography. In 2015, George was named a Distinguished Professor at the University of Colorado. George continued working until a couple days before his death.
    George was an avid skier and had season tickets for the CU football team since 1985. Go Buffs! George and Carol enjoyed taking cruises and visiting England and France. He enjoyed reading and gardening. He was proud of his son, Brett, and loved him very much. George and Carol treasured their visits with Brett and his wife, Maria, who live in Los Angeles. He was devoted to his wonderful wife, Carol. Their dog, Jem, was with George when he died and had given George a lot of love and happiness.
    George was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Hilda Lippe, Ella Baros, his brothers Elmer and Norman Born.
    He is survived by his wife Carol, his son Brett (Maria), his sisters Erna Prukop, Rose Scott (Bobby), DOrothy Anderson (Jerry) and his brother, Clarence.
    A memorial service was held Sunday, January 24. There will be an official university memorial held on campus at a later date.

Lillie Mae Pearce

Lillie Mae Green Pearce, of Rockport, formerly of Deutschburg Community, Jackson County,  passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. Lillie was born on Jan. 7, 1924 in Edna, to Eugene George Green and Annie Catherine Terry Green. She graduated from La Ward High School then later married her high school sweetheart and forever love, Frank Dorton Pearce, on Oct. 26, 1942. Lillie was a dedicated Army wife who volunteered and worked while her husband served our country. After the service, they moved back to Jackson County, where she was a housewife and an active in the Deutschburg Community Club and Home Demonstration Club. Lillie Mae was a well-respected, generous, and caring woman who was always willing to help others.
For 20 years, Lillie Mae served as an election judge in Deutschburg and Carancahua communities. She enjoyed being a part of the yearly Community Seafood Supper fundraiser, which benefits the March of Dimes. Wonderful memories that many will treasure were enjoying her delicious desserts and home-cooked meals. She was a woman of faith, an active member and mentor of the Point Comfort Church of Christ for many decades. It was a common sight to see Lillie Mae in attendance at her grandkids and great-grandkids school and sporting events; she was a passionate and energetic person. 
Lillie Mae was known to the younger generations as Mamau, and they enjoyed seeing and visiting with her at family gatherings and other events. Some of Lillie’s past time hobbies included gardening, playing dominoes, and fishing on her nearby river property.
On her 88th birthday, Lillie Mae moved to Rockport to enjoy and spend time with her family. She continued to be an activemember to the Church of Christ-Rockport, where she participated in a ladies Bible study. She enjoyed spending time with her local friends in Rockport and visiting her long-time friends back home, but above all, she loved to be surrounded by and make memories with her family.
Lillie Mae is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene George Green and Annie Catherine Terry Green; beloved husband, Francis (Frank) Dorton Pearce; sisters, Lucille Lee, Irene Whitworth, Mildred Henderson, and Opal Alford; and brothers, Eugene (Sonny) Green and Billy Green.
She is survived by her son, Larry Ben Pearce and his wife Jean Pearce of Rockport; granddaughter, Erin Pearce Cruzan and husband Kenny of Rockport; grandson, Matthew Ben Pearce and his wife Tiana of Portland; and great-grandchildren, Camryn and Cason Cruzan, and soon-to-arrive, baby Mattilyn Pearce; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16 from noon to 2 p.m., with the funeral service to begin at 2 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna.  
Memorials may be made to Harbor Hospice, 400 Enterprise Blvd, Rockport, Texas 78382.

Martin "Duke" Salinas

Martin “Duke” Salinas, of Edna, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at the age of 70. He was born Nov. 12, 1945, in Olivia  to the late Jose and Louisa Martinez Salinas.
Martin was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly.  
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Robles and Veronica Beltran; sons, Daniel Salinas and his wife Angelica, John Martin Salinas, Joe Patrick Salinas, and David Salinas; sisters, Mickey Hernandez, and Janie Diaz; brother, Tony Salinas; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patsy Salinas; brothers, Genaro Salinas, Jerry Salinas, Sandy Salinas, Cruz Salinas, and Steve Salinas.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Feb. 14,  from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. A funeral mass was at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 15 in the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Michael Petering officiating. Burial followed at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado. 
Pallbearers were Jason Hernandez, Tony Salinas, Jr., Timothy Salinas, Johnny James Salinas, Anthony Salinas, and Tommy Lee Salinas.

Marion Vance

Marion Lucille Brieger Vance, 94, died on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. She was born on Aug. 22, 1921, the only child of Lydia Elizabeth Goetz Brieger and Alfred Charles Brieger of Runge.
Marion graduated from Runge High School and attended Trinity University in San Antonio and Texas State University in San Marcos, graduating with a BA degree in music. She was the choir and band director at Sanderson High School in Sanderson, Texas but was offered a job in Victoria after the war. One afternoon, as the story goes, a girlfriend asked Marion to accompany her on a drive to Edna. 
In the meantime, Captain John T. Vance, Jr., had returned from the war in Europe, had finished his engineering degree from the University of Texas, and had established the City Chevrolet Dealership in Edna. He rolled out from under an automobile and spotted Marion Brieger. They were married Feb. 2, 1947. Marion raised four children, and was active in the community and the Presbyterian Church, as the youth choir director and the first woman elder. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as an officer, and president. John T. died in Sept. 2003, and they are survived by their four children; Judy Vance Westhoff and husband Gus of Edna, Betty Vance Ronga and husband Gerald of Lealander, John T. Vance, III and wife Elizabeth of Bay City, and Mary Lou Vance and fiance' Daniel Rizzo of Houston. They have nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Westhoff Simons and husband Travis, Catherine Westhoff Chaessher and husband Reagan, Anna Westhoff Pack and husband Sam, Thomas O. Murphey III, Adelaide L. Murphey, Sara Ronga Trumet, Lindsay Ronga Yeager and husband Eric, Leigh Vance Banaszak and husband John, John Cullen Vance, and eight great-grandchildren, West Simons, Kate Simons, Cavern Trumet, Callaway Chessher and Mirabai Ronga, Marion Banaszak, Brieger Pack, and Maraea Yeager.
Thank you Mother, for being such a wonderful example for all of us!
The family will have a private family service at a later date. 
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Edna Presbyterian Church.

Wanda Cox

Wanda Ardell Ingold Cox, 87, passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2016 surrounded by her family. Wanda was born on Jan. 3, 1929 in Bethalto, Ill. to Albert and Nona Baldwin Ingold.
Wanda was a loving, devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother with a great love for bingo and dominos. She spent the last nine years of her life at Ganado Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she was much loved and cared for. She also held the position of secretary to the Director of Activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband O. Edward Cox, who passed away on Aug. 25, 1983; her brother Robert Ingold, sister Sheila Marie Pena, and her granddaughter Lori Beth Parker.
Wanda is survived by her nine children, Robert Vandalia of Alton, Ill., Reva Garris of Idaho, Carolyn Parker of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Michael Cox of Houston, Ray Vandalia, Greg Cox, Cheryl Denton, Michelle Benavides, and Steven Cox all of Ganado, also 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. with Mary Garcia officiating.

John "Paul" Bezoni

John “Paul” Bezoni, of Edna, went to be with the Lord, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 at the age of 84. He was born in Driscoll on Aug. 7, 1931, to the late John Thomas Bezoni and Jessie Elizabeth Martin Bezoni.
Paul served our country in the United States Marine Corps. He also worked for Exxon for 40 plus years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be truly missed. Paul frequently told his wife Peggie, “I am so glad you found me”.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Peggie June Thomasson Bezoni of Edna; daughter, Paula Joyce Matlock and her husband Phillip of Dallas; son, Preston Jay Bezoni of Edna; granddaughter, Claire Matlock of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mayo Bezoni; and sister, Peggy Joyce Buckner.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held in the Memory Gardens Cemetery on Friday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Adam R. Knapp will be officiating.

William "Bill" Hollingsworth

William Campbell “Bill” Hollingsworth, of Edna, age 89 passed away March 2, 2016. He was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Harlingen, Texas to the late Louis Robert and Eleanor Campbell Hollingsworth.
After graduating from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, he served in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war, he continued his education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he met Sarah Francis Munsell (Hollingsworth) whom he married Oct. 28, 1950.
Bill was an active member of the community. He was president of Jackson County State Bank, Victoria Bank and Trust in Edna, and Lavaca Navidad River Authority. He served on various bank and trust boards, the Edna Independent School District board, and the First United Methodist Church board, of which he was a lifelong member and Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his children, Sarah Leigh Hollingsworth Kahanek and husband Kelley of Victoria, William Campbell Hollingsworth, Jr. and wife Lanier of Hurst, and James Munsell Hollingsworth of Edna; five grandchildren, Kelley David Kahanek, Jr., William Ross Kahanek and wife Megan, James Morgan Kahanek all of Victoria, William Craig Hollingsworth and wife Rochelle of Las Vegas, Nev. and Katherine Hollingsworth Burchfiel and husband Michael of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and three great-grandchildren, Braden Kade Kahanek, Jackson Hunter Kahanek and Taylor Kelley Kahanek.
He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and two brothers, Louis Robert Hollingsworth, Jr. and James Alfred Hollingsworth.
A private graveside service was held by the family on March 7 followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Edna with the Rev. Adam Knapp officiating.

Troy Lee Idom

Troy Lee Idom, 74, passed away March 7, 2016 in Dallas. He was born Nov. 2, 1941 in Yazoo City, Miss. to Troy Lee Idom and Jessie Faye (Moore) Idom. 
Troy earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13 and graduated from Edna High School in 1959 and Texas A&I in 1965 with a degree in petroleum engineering. He married Sandra Gail Hart on Sept. 7, 1962 in Edna. After a short stint with Reed Roller Bit in Houston, he took a job with National Supply in Gainesville where he and Sandra raised their family. 
Troy served his community in various ways by coaching Little League baseball, working with the Boy Scouts, being a member on the boards of the Cooke County United Way, the Texoma Regional Blood Bank, the Texoma Regional Planning Commission, and the Gainesville Boys and Girls Club. He served on the Gainesville City Council from 1983 to 1987 and was a Regent for NCTC from 2001 to 2008. 
Troy retired from Boeing in 2001 and he and Sandra traveled all over the world as well as spending their summers in Colorado and winters on the Texas coast. Troy never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Idom of Whitesboro; son Troy (Trae) Idom and wife Kay of St. Cloud, Minn.; son Bret Idom and wife Cindy of Gainesville; daughter Erin Tolbert and husband Rick of Celina; grandchildren Natalie Idom, Sarah Breshears, Crystal Hurst and husband Anthony, Megan Tolbert and Travis Tolbert; sister Patricia Carroll and husband Larry; sister-in-law Judy Giffert of Marietta, OK; and several nieces and nephews. 
A memorial visitation for Troy Lee Idom, Jr., 74, of Whitesboro (formerly a long time Gainesville resident) will be held at Geo J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville on Saturday, March 12 from 2 to 4 p.m..A private burial will be held at a later date in Enon Cemetery, Edna.

Ella “Pat” Dean Rozner, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the age of 81. She was born in Port Arthur on March 30, 1934, to the late Bert Good and Bernadine Johnson Good.
Ella is survived by her daughters, Linda Karl, Shirley Gloor and her husband Wayne, Theresa Marek and her husband Cisco; son, Scott Rozner and his wife Tonia; grandchildren, Hondo and Shelly Marek, Margo Michelle Marek, Keith and Andrea Gloor, Melissa and Brian Huber, Jonathan Gloor, Brandon and Kerry Karl, Kamey and Clint Wilkerson, Michael Biehle, Jeremy Biehle, and Lauren Rozner; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be truly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband, Raymond Anton Rozner; daughter, Carol Rozner Biehle; brother, Rodney McCreary; and son-in-law, John R. Karl.

Bertie Knoblock

Bertie Nora Simmons Knoblock, 93 of Edna passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016.  Bertie was born on Feb. 2, 1923 to A.C.E. and Hattie Stephens Simmons in Edna. 
Bertie lived and worked in Jackson County most of her life. She graduated from Ganado High School and then went on to attend Durham Business College where she graduated with a degree in business. She was a member of Lolita Ladies VFW, she worked for Alcoa for 5 years, then worked for PCN Railroad as a clerk and then as an agent for 25 years. Bertie married Otis Knoblock, and together they had three children.
Bertie is survived by her daughter, Sandra Childers of Blessing and her son, Otis Ray Knoblock of Bryan, as well as six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bertie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Glen Lester Knoblock, four sisters, and six brothers.
There will be a celebration of life graveside service on Friday, March 11, at 10 a.m. at Ganado Cemetery, with her grandson Korey Davis officiating.

Eunice Mae McDonald Hicks, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born in Morales on Jan. 10, 1924, to the late Valso Alexander McDonald and Alice Mae Hokit McDonald.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be truly missed. Eunice was a life-long resident of Jackson County, she was also the Valedictorian of her class in Morales. She loved to cook, garden and read. 
Eunice is survived by her daughters, Jeannie Browning and her husband James, Debbie Carroll and her husband Jim, Billie Rae Hayden and her husband Craig; sons, F.D. “Spud” Ellison and his wife Ginger, Michael G. Hicks and his wife Susie, Jeff Hicks, Clinton Hicks and his wife Leah; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Billy Eugene Hicks; daughter, Nancy Ann Hicks; sister, Nellie Ellison, Mary Newton, Nancy “Polly” Chivers; brother, Donald J. McDonald; and great-grandson, Weston Kuchler.  
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 10 a.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Marian Davis Broyles Ford passed away on March 13, 2016, at the age of 95. She was born December 7, 1920 in Maryville, Missouri to George Fred and Esther Hepburn Davis.
She is survived by one son, David; two daughters, Catherine and Juanita; and one grandson, Jeremy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband John Broyles, Jr., her second husband John Ford, her brother Harold, and two sisters, Helen and Marie.

Robert (Bobby) Lee Sheblak, 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. He was born on Dec. 9, 1935 in Edna, to Elmer and Annie Hollas Sheblak. 
Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jennie Sheblak of Edna; sons Edward Sheblak of Johanasberg, South Africa, and his partner Juan, Marcus and his wife Kim Sheblak, of Ganado, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and family for visitation on Friday, March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., at  Slavik-Edna Funeral Home Chapel.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Edna, with Rev. Michael Petering officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by Ganado American Legion Post #346.

Garland Ray 'Nanny' Johnson, age 82, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016. He was born Feb. 25, 1934 in Lavaca County to the late Harvey Johnson and Blanche Knox Johnson.
He graduated from Yoakum High School and began working for Alcoa for 30+ years until his retirement. After retirement he worked for LNRA. Garland enjoyed growing his garden and crops, raising cattle, hunting, fishing and traveling during his time off.
Survivors are his daughters, Jeanne Hartsfield ( Tim) and Debbie Hajek (Ervin) both of Yoakum; sons, Steve Johnson (Alice) of Ganado, Tim Johnson of Snyder and Patrick Johnson (Bonnie) of LaWard; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harvey Johnson of Yoakum, Ronald Johnson (Claudette) of Yancy.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers, Tommy (Pug) Johnson, Walter (Sleepy) Johnson; and sister, Peggy Frazer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 23 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 24 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Jaquez officiating. Burial to follow at Willow Creek Cemetery in Sublime.
